Mauterndorf airfield in the federal state of Salzburg is the highest altitude alpine airfield in Austria and a meeting point for gliders from all over the world. Due to its unique location in the Lungau basin, the airfield enjoys long periods of thermals and wave lifts. As long as the airfield is free of snow, gliding is possible from April until well into October. Powered flights from 1 May to 30 September (in winter with aircraft equipped with skis) PPR. Winch launching and aero towing are available for glider flights. |
