You can even practice Nordic sports, such as cross-country skiing and skating, in the Lungau holiday region. Cross-country skiers have a choice between excellent cross-country trails in the valley – the sunny levels between Mauterndorf and Mariapfarr deserve a special mention – or the high trails on the Katschberg and in Obertauern.
With appropriate snow cover, in total some 30 cross-country trails are available for you at every level of difficulty, with about 150 km of classic tracks and therefrom are about 80 km of skating tracks.

A large number of cross-country trails are found around Mauterndorf in particular. The airfield cross-country trail with its 2.6 km of classic tracks and skating tracks is perfect for beginners and those pleasure skiers who want to enjoy the sun. The Taurach cross-country trail from Mauterndorf to Mariapfarr and back covering a distance of 6.5 km, definitely requires more endurance and, depending on your stamina, there are different access points in Mariapfarr.
| Certainly more demanding is the Hammer/Twenger/Lantschfeld cross-country trail from Mauterndorf ski centre towards Tweng near Obertauern, with 12 km of tracks in the classic style and about 6 km in the skating style. |

A Lungau trail pin must be purchased in order to use the cross-country trails in the Lungau holiday region. The pin is available at all tourist information offices in the Lungau holiday region. The cross-country trail combined ticket can be purchased from the bus driver.
