Winter hiking in the Lungau holiday region

Deep snow covered winter landscape at 1,100 m elevation

With its location at 1,110 m above sea level, Mauterndorf is the perfect starting point for numerous winter hikes or winter walks. The majority of the winter hiking trails pass along quiet side roads or tracks used for agriculture or forestry, and offer wonderful views of the surrounding mountain landscape of the Lungau. The levels between Mauterndorf and Mariapfarr are especially noted for their sunny location!

A very popular winter walking path leads from the historic market square, past the imposing Mauterndorf Castle, along a traffic-free, excellently groomed path, which is also lit at night, to the Mauterndorf ski centre. After walking for about 25 minutes, you will have reached your destination and, after fortifying yourself in the Schi Alm restaurant, can start the walk back.

Or enjoy the wonderful winter panorama on a mountain ascent with the gondola and watch the colourful action on the ski slopes. On the mountain the Panorama Alm restaurant invites you to stop and enjoy some refreshment or the Speiereck Hütte!
